Colcom Foundation Explains The Sixth Mass Extinction

The Colcom Foundation was founded by Cordelia S. May. From an early age, May had a deep understanding of the balance between nature and people. May also knew this balance was in jeopardy. To help maintain the balance, she became a supporter of family planning. May recognized how the growing population was causing cracks in the ecological balance. May made it her life’s mission to bring awareness to this problem, which could eventually lead to the Sixth Mass Extinction.

Under normal circumstances, extinction is a normal process, the Colcom Foundation explains. Environmental change, competition, and natural selection cause certain species to become extinct. However, during a mass extinction, species become extinct before their time. During our planet’s history, there have been five mass extinctions. They were caused by natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions and a giant meter. The Sixth Mass Extinction; however, will not be caused by nature. Instead, it will be humans who cause it.

The cause, according to the Colcom Foundation, is the human population is beyond the human carrying capacity. Humans, along with other species living on the planet, need things to survive, including water, food, shelter, and more. Humans use more of their share, causing the Earth to reach its capacity to provide necessary resources to humans and other species. The population of humans is the primary problem, states the foundation. Technological advancements rank a close second. Many are under the impression that technology will help to save the environment. The foundation believes the opposite. Technology, instead, is just another consumption.

Hope is not lost. There is a solution, says the foundation. They are calling on each nation to do its part. It is up to each group to adopt standards to limit their population growth and create immigration policies. It is only then the foundation believes the Sixth Mass Extinction can be adverted.
