Eamon O’Rourke is a film director with an undergraduate degree in journalism and an MFA in directing from the American Film Institute. His films have screened at over 100 festivals around the world, won nearly two dozen awards, been nominated for four more, and been covered by The New Yorker, Variety, Indiewire, Filmmaker Magazine and many other outlets.
O’Rourke’s first feature was the film “Girl Asleep,” which premiered internationally as a centerpiece of Rotterdam IFF 2015 to high critical acclaim from Europe-based critics. It went on to screen at over 50 festivals worldwide including Sydney FIlm Festival (Australia), Munich International Film Festival (Germany) and Seattle International Film Festival (USA).
O’Rourke’s other feature film as writer-director is “The Little Po-Po”, a North American co-production between the National Film Board of Canada and Super Crispy Entertainment. It was partially financed by Telefilm Canada, the NFB and Super Crispy Entertainment, and shot entirely in O’Rourke’s hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The film premiered at its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival 2017 to universal critical acclaim from mainstream media outlets like Indiewire, The New Yorker, Variety and Filmmaker Magazine. It was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award.
O’Rourke’s first feature as cinematographer is “A Season in France” (2014), directed by Michael Lerman, which won the Audience Award at SXSW 2014. His other work in cinematography includes a short film called “Questions of Travel” starring Vanessa Paradis and directed by Jill Soloway (“Transparent,” “Afternoon Delight”). He is currently developing his first narrative feature script, “Somewhere Else”.
Eamon O’Rourke other writing credits include the short film “The Problem with Ants” (2014), and the animated short “A New Friend” (2014).
O’Rourke’s documentary work includes numerous pieces for PBS Frontline, CBC and HBO. He has also shot for several narrative features including the music film “Holier Than Thou” by Darren Aronofsky, as well as commercials for HBO, Scion and AT&T. His work has won multiple awards, including a Best Director award at The One Show.
Eamon O’Rourke has also directed several commercials for clients such as Fox and Lionsgate. His work was part of the best of the year show at The One Show and won Best Cinematography for a Commercial at SXSW 2017.
