Watford Football Club struggled for years to stay in the limelight but always got relegated to the lower division until Gino purchased the club. Gianpaolo Pozzo and Giuliana Pozzo, parents to Gino, had interests and passion in football that kindled a candle of passion in Gino Pozzo. The Pozzo family had a legacy of owning and investing in sports clubs that later became household names in the country. Gino’s grandfather was a former owner and president of Udinese, a club he sold to Gino’s father in 1986. In 1993, Gino Pozzo joined his father in a managerial position and transformed the club into a championship contender. Gino utilized his newfound scouting-driven strategy and acquired skilled players who changed the club’s winning mentality.

Moving on, in 2009, Gino participated in the acquisition and transformation of Granada F.C., a lowly regarded club that was heavily in debt. Gino Pozzo is the mastermind behind acquiring new players, managers, and scouts by injecting funds and strategies that ranked Granda F.C. up from its fourth to first division. In 2016, Gino facilitated a deal to sell the majority of shares to businessman Jiang Lizhang, which elevated the club’s financial standard, enabling it to do better than in the previous seasons.

After moving around the world scouting and managing different clubs, Gino Pozzo purchased Watford Football Club in 2012, becoming the new president. He promised to continue his family’s long-term commitment to elevating low-division clubs, and in just three seasons, Watford F.C was promoted to the premier league.
