Grethen Robinson is the General Counsel and the Vice President of Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. She develops plans, processes, procedures, and legal guidelines to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Gretchen constantly reviews and improves the efficiency of her legal team to ensure RIOC achieves its mission.
Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation was started in 1984 in New York State. Their mission was to plan, design, develop, and maintain Roosevelt Island. The corporation has since worked with the public to provide an environmentally friendly, sustainable, innovative approach to governing the island. Through innovative governance, the island has developed roads, parks, buildings, sports facilities and a spectacular ariel tramway.
The Public Safety Department operated by RIOC provides a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors and employees. These efforts have elevated the island’s state to make it a serene and pleasant place to live and invest in.
Gretchen Robinson is a hardworking, professional, and goal-oriented attorney. She began her career as a criminal prosecution lawyer in the Queens District Attorney’s Office. After many years of practice, she transformed her career and became a civil attorney. She moved to the Civilian Complaint Review Board, where she conducted administrative trials in the Administrative Prosecution Unit.
Gretchen’s success is not a one-day event but a cumulation of effort, experience and dedication to her work. She was born and brought up in Washington, District of Columbia. Her education climaxed at the American University Washington College of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate. She has a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from the University of Virginia.
Gretchen Robinson joined Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation in 2015 and became the Compliance & Internal Controls Officer. She would monitor transactions, policies and procedures to ensure they comply with the legal formalities assigned to them. Later, she moved to Women’s Business Development and proposed legislation that would affect the program. She also advised the public and other agencies on the duties and responsibilities of the MWBE. Following her diligence in pursuit of impeccable public service delivery, she became the vice president and general counsel of RIOC in 2019.
