Kelcy Warren is the chairman and CEO of Energy Transfer Partners. He’s also committed to being a global leader in the energy sector, which is why he’s so passionate about investing billions of dollars into pipelines and other infrastructure development projects to serve customers across North America.
Kelcy Warren, who was born and raised in Texas, took an interest in engineering while attending Southern Methodist University as an undergraduate. But shortly after completing his degree, he left school to work for a pipeline company called Tulsa-based Williams Brothers Construction Company. To provide quality transportation infrastructure throughout the country, Kelcy Warren was dedicated to working hard and did so for years. In 1989, he was promoted to chief operating officer, and a year later, he bought out his partners to become CEO.
In 1998, Kelcy Warren decided to take his pipeline company public. The move proved extremely successful, so he established Energy Transfer Equity in 2000. Only two years later, it merged with Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P., a company created when Sun Company Incorporated and Ashland Incorporated merged their energy businesses in 1998. The newly created partnership, valued at $7 billion, focused on developing, marketing, and transporting energy products throughout North America.
Although Kelcy Warren had already made a name for himself and his company, he still needed to finish. In 2010, Energy Transfer Partners merged with Energy Transfer Equity. They took on billions of dollars of debt to acquire great assets from Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P. At that time, Warren also formed another company called Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P., where he was named chairman and CEO.
In 2014, Energy Transfer Partners was listed as America’s 4th largest pipeline operator. Although Warren has been building a successful company for many years, he always remembers where he came from, so he’s committed to helping others through his charitable endeavors. He and his wife, both philanthropists, started the Warren Foundation in 2002. See this page for more information.
