Randy Douthit is a television producer and director with decades of experience in this industry. Douthit started as a groundskeeper at a local TV station before being offered a job there when he was 19 years old. With a natural knack for the job and his love of it, he quickly proved himself to be a hard worker dedicated to the task.
He looked up to people around him as mentors and found inspiration in those doing jobs that often go unnoticed. Douthit worked his way up from local television to producing some of the highest-rated shows on national TV.
Shows He Worked On
Douthit was the original producer of Crossfire, a political debate show on CNN. He also executive-produced and directed Larry King Live, Capital Gang, Judge Judy Sheindlin’s Emmy award-winning courtroom program, and Judy Justice.
Filmmaking During the Pandemic
Douthit says that producing during a pandemic posed unique challenges to him and his team. Additional testing procedures, safety protocols, and a new awareness attitude had to be implemented. The studio audience was left vacant to minimize exposure. Even though the precautions added extra steps, everyone adapted and worked together to ensure the show continued.
Judge Judy Sheindlin even continued presiding over cases remotely via video conferencing platforms from her East Coast location in front of a reproduction of her background viewers were used to seeing with evidence fed through the monitor for rulings before making them.
Success Of Judy Justice
Douthit’s success didn’t end there; he turned around another failing program Seattle Today into one that became top-rated in no time at all. After Judge Judy’s 25th season ended, Douthit joined Sheindlin again for Amazon Studios’ streaming channel IMDb TV production “Judy Justice.”
They had an initial order of 120 episodes which they filmed within three months during the pandemic – proving their ability to adapt quickly and efficiently while still producing high-quality content despite difficulties posed by the pandemic health measures adopted at that time.
This earned them excellent ratings across many demographics once it premiered on November 1st, 2021, followed by part 2, which aired in early 2022 – adding another successful notch under Randy Douthit’s belt!
