Randy Douthit on the Way Television News has changed and its Future

When Randy Douthit began his career in television he was only 23 years old. He had no experience and he totally learned his job on the job as he did the job. However, he found out that he was very good at his job and had found his life time career.

That first fill in job led to other more significant and responsible positions. As he advanced and moved up the television ladder as a producer and director he moved to CNN and was involved in a number of high profile shows.

He worked with Judge Judy Sheindlin and moved with her as her show Judy Justice moved to an Amazon owned station. Through these career moved Randy Douthit remained with his eyes on the news business and its progression in TV.

Douthit believes that television news has changed since the 1980s. He says that more salacious stories still lead the broadcasts. The old adage, ‘if it bleeds, it leads’ is still at the forefront of much of TV news. These days many of the stories on TV news are not always verified and these stories have proliferated. He believes that facts do not seem as important today as they have been in the past.

Douthit has spent most of his career years in the entertainment sector but he posits that TV news can be a force for good. This was demonstrated in last year’s televised House of Representatives hearings on the January sixth insurrection at the US Capitol.

Randy Douthit believes that there is a bright future for TV news. He thinks that if the industry does not move forward it will stagnant and have huge negative results.

He understands that if the industry does not adapt to the times, the results will be unacceptable. While the first major news story that TV covered live were the McCarthy congressional hearings in 1954, the trend continued with many more Congressional inquiries. For the House Select Committee January sixth hearings between 10 and 20 million viewers watched the proceedings.

Douthit says that he is excited for the future of news on the small screen. He welcomes all the new opportunities presented including all the new streaming services.
