Robert Kraft’s Contribution In Sports

Robert Kraft is an American businessman who is the founder, chairman, and CEO of The Kraft Group. This company deals with sports and entertainment, paper and packaging, a private equity portfolio, and real estate development. His popular assets are the National Football League’s New England Patriots, the Gillette Stadium, and Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution. He founded a company called International Forest Products which deals in physical paper commodities and is the chairman at Rand-Whitney Group, a packaging company owned by Hiatt. These two make up the USA’s most prominent privately-owned paper packaging companies.

Kraft has been a fan of the Patriots with tickets for every season since 1971. He started by buying a parcel near the stadium in 1985 and ended up buying the stadium in 1988 when it was sold out of bankruptcy by Billy Sullivan. The stadium came with a lease to the Patriots, which later enabled Robert Kraft to buy the team. When he bought the team in 1994, the New England Patriots fans were so excited that they bought close to 6,000 game tickets to show their appreciation. Every year after that, for the past 34 years, the season tickets and home games have been selling out.

In 1996, Robert Kraft started the New England Revolution, a Major League soccer member who began playing at Foxboro alongside the Patriots. He also privately financed the revamping of Gillette stadium, which became the home of players of Foxboro. Robert Kraft developed the area around Gillette Stadium, which became an entertainment and open-air shopping center referred to as the Patriot place. The Patriots team has been seen to have more playoffs since Kraft bought it. They won the AFC titles for several years and also represented AFC in the Super Bowl severally and won most of the time. During Robert Kraft’s ownership, the Patriots team has won many regular-season games and playoff games which were good for the team.

Kraft was interested in investing in Liverpool, an English Football team, but it was sold to George Gillett and Tom Hicks. He is also a philanthropist who, together with his wife, has supported various causes such as healthcare, children and women issues, education, sports, American and Israeli causes, and the youth. Robert Kraft has greatly supported American Football in Israel through the Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem and the Kraft Family Israel Football League.
