In March 2021, Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation changed its administration by appointing Shelton Haynes as the corporation’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Since June 2020, Haynes has been the interim Chief Executive Officer of the corporation. When Shelton assumed office, he started his responsibilities by learning his work area. He took time to gain vast knowledge about Roosevelt Island and its surrounding. Shelton agrees that Roosevelt Island is unique. It is a small town in the middle of one of the largest cities in America, New York City. Roosevelt Island is an urban hot spot known for its busy activities. Many names knew the small town before it was named Roosevelt Island after the 32nd President of America.

In 1984, New York City administration realized the need to create another administration for Roosevelt Island, named Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. The corporation is responsible for renovating and caring for the Island’s parks, roads, public transport, buildings, and sports facilities. Shelton Haynes has played the role of the President and the Chief Executive Officer since March 2021. Haynes works closely with the Board of Directors to make Roosevelt an attractive Island. Like any other top leader, Haynes is responsible for the corporation’s long and short-term goals. Shelton oversees various projects, including completing the Island’s plan that was started in 1969, which will be completed with the construction of Riverwalk Building 9. Shelton Haynes is responsible for the management of the corporation’s daily functions. Even though he is not familiar with the transport industry, he takes each day as a learning day.
