In 2002, he graduated from Stanford University and won the prestigious Lippold Dissertation Award for a work on making online advertising efficient. From there he joined Yahoo! as director of business development for Europe and Asia until 2008. In 2009 he joined Google as head of display advertising. He was a Google executive until 2014 and was in charge of European markets.
In 2014, Luis Horta e Costa started his own firm Square View, after becoming disillusioned with the corporate environment. The company offers architectural services, development and investment opportunities with a focus on urban transformation and planning.
Horta Costa has been recognized as the “most influential Portuguese architect” by the Portuguese business daily newspaper “Expresso”. He is also one of the most influential Portuguese business leaders by the “Financial Times” and was regarded as “The most Powerful Young Entrepreneur in the World” by FastCompany.
Luis Horta e Costa was a popular speaker at TED conferences in 2010, 2011 and 2013. He spoke on his vision that architecture can make an impact on local communities, including developing sustainable economies and improving social conditions. He also spoke about using architecture as a tool for change when his mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Luis Horta e Costa has been serving the building community as a board member of the American Institute of Architecture, the largest organization that represents architects in North America. He is also a partner in the Building Green Awards sponsored by the American Institute of Architects and The Nature Conservancy.
Horta Costa was a director of Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris and is also an architect at BCN3D, a company specialized in 3D digitization/3D printing services.
In 2012 Luis left Google to co-found Square view with the vision to create a unified solution for digital advertisers. He serves as the managing partner and has been a key contributor to the company’s growth. The company transformed by providing a one spot that would allow advertisers to gain insights and make decisions on their campaigns, track them, manage budgets, all in an integrated fashion.
